Flood Risk Mapping for Community Assessment in PEI

Communities in Prince Edward Island experience occasional coastal (storm surge) and inland flooding (heavy rainfall). These events often result in damage to public and private infrastructure. Mapping areas at risk from coastal flooding will help to identify areas of concern and contribute to planning, design and maintenance efforts to minimize impacts., Project objectives were to develop LiDAR-based wet-areas mapping to establish hydrological risks due to coastal flooding in the communities of Mount Stewart, North Rustico, Souris and Souris West, and Victoria., Coastal and inland flood risk maps were developed and provided to communities engaged in the Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment., Mapping areas at risk from coastal and inland flooding could help identify areas of concern and contribute to planning, design and maintenance efforts to minimize impacts.
