Description
The project explores the capacity of the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg to respond proactively to coastal impacts of climate change induced sea-level rise and more frequent extreme weather events. This project was conducted over the summer of 2011 and included a review of plans and policies and consultation with municipal staff and professionals in other government agencies of relevance to climate change adaptation issues. The report includes a summary of the legislative environment in which Nova Scotia’s municipalities operate, a description ofthe Municipality’s governance and administrative structure as this relates to capacity for climate change adaptation, identification of key government stakeholder groups in the Municipality with an interest in climate change impacts, and a review of the District of Lunenburg’s existing land use plans and policies for capacity to respond to coastal climate change impacts.
